The workshops will be held in Dorking in March 2025, as well as an online workshop, date to be confirmed.
Prepacked food and drink are required to display nutrition information, and this requirement has now been extended to larger out of home food businesses, who need to display calories on their menus. The government is also encouraging smaller businesses to adopt calorie labelling on a voluntary basis as part of its drive to improve the nation’s health and tackle obesity levels.
These free workshops will discuss the rationale for calorie labelling and the potential benefits for small businesses, as well as addressing some of the concerns and obstacles. They will help equip food businesses with the knowledge and skills to provide calorie labelling on their menus.
The workshops will be held in Leatherhead in November 2024 and in Dorking in March 2025.
They will be led by Susan Church, a Registered Nutritionist with expertise in food composition and nutritional analysis, who supports food businesses of all sizes in provision of nutrition information.
Each session will last up to 3 hours and will include:
This project is supported by a Mole Valley District Council business grant scheme funded via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The workshops are open to small out of home food businesses trading in the Mole Valley district of Surrey. They are specifically aimed at cafés and bakeries providing lunchtime options, together with independent takeaway outlets offering hot food (e.g. pizzas, fish and chips, Asian cuisine). These businesses will be given priority for places at the workshops, with an allocation of one attendee per business. There is no charge for attendance, but advance booking is essential.
To request a place, please complete the registration form. There is a choice of morning, afternoon and evening in-person sessions, plus online evening sessions.
Please note that calorie labelling is voluntary for smaller businesses, and there is no requirement for attendees at these workshops to subsequently implement calorie labelling.
