Nutrition workshops for food businesses

Workshop: Nutrition calculation for out-of-home food businesses

Prepacked food and drink are required to display nutrition information, and this requirement has now been extended to larger out-of-home food businesses, which need to display calories on their menus. The government is also encouraging smaller businesses to adopt calorie labelling voluntarily as part of its drive to improve the nation’s health and tackle obesity levels.

This workshop discusses the rationale for calorie labelling and the potential benefits for small businesses, as well as addressing some of the concerns and obstacles. It helps equip food businesses with the knowledge and skills to provide calorie labelling on their menus.

The online workshop lasts about 2 hours and includes:

  • An introduction to out-of-home calories, including: the rationale, benefits and concerns; guidance on sourcing, calculating and displaying calorie content; and demonstrations of tools and resources that can facilitate the process;
  • A practical exercise to calculate calorie content;
  • Tips on healthy catering;
  • Signposting to further guidance, resources and tools;
  • Opportunity for questions and discussion.
